Garbage disposal repair in San Gabriel

A hum and no spin

Something is wedged between the spinning plate and the grind ring, often a pit or a piece of shell. Once the breaker or plug is off, a quarter-inch hex wrench fits the socket under the unit and rocks the plate free.

If the reset button keeps popping after the jam clears, the motor is likely at the end of its life, and we quote a matching replacement.

Water in the cabinet

Trace the wet trail upward. Drops gathering under the sink rim point to a mounting ring that has worked loose or plumber's putty that has dried out. Wetness along the side of the unit tends to come from the hose off the dishwasher or the elbow that carries waste to the trap.

Both of those get fixed in place. If water is weeping out through the casing itself, the seals inside are gone and the unit has to be replaced.

Kitchens in older houses

Disposers were added to most San Gabriel kitchens long after the houses were built; the city's median home dates from 1957. Retrofits sometimes sit on a drain arm that is too low, which keeps water standing in the unit.

We check that drain height along with the trap connection.

Questions from San Gabriel homeowners

Is it safe to reach into a jammed disposer?

No. Cut the power and use the hex socket underneath instead.

My unit is done. What now?

We quote a matching disposer that clips onto the mounting ring already under your sink.
